Pengelly Fine Arts

I was born and raised in a small, remote northern Cornish village, near Callington , England . My artistic talents became evident at a very early age and following the completion of my education, my flair for creative work, inspired me to attend the Plymouth College of Art and Design, where I studied fine art. I became an accomplished artist and for many years was dedicated to painting Cornish scenery.

The journey of life, took me to Lincolnshire , where the change of landscape, from the swept and rugged swathes of Cornwall , with its sometimes daunting moors and craggy coastlines, changed to a bouquet of wooded groves, dimpled with streams, ponds and thatched cottages. These idyllic settings, often swathed in the midst of incandescent light, resulted in the furtherance of my artistic talents and an insatiable desire, to capture the quintessence of light, within my paintings.

As I progressed and my artistic techniques developed and broadened, I discovered I had a talent for painting still life. It wasn't long before I became influenced by the work of the Dutch Masters and the way they undeniably captured the warmth and romanticism: which are intrinsic principles of light. Although not confined to this specific medium, in the main, I now specialize in ‘Dutch Style' still life.

Despite all my travels around this country and abroad - which has inspired my past and current work; and now fuels the discerning insight, which fires my imagination – I still retain strong ties with my beloved Cornwall . The day will soon come, when I will return to my home town: there, to fulfil and complete the artistic circle of my life.
